Carey and Starc star as Australia take 2-0 series lead
Australia has taken a 2-0 lead in the three match ODI series against England, with Mitchell Starc and Alex Carey starring in a comfortable 72-run victory at Old Trafford.
Starc took 4-47 from his 10 overs, including the key wickets of Jason Roy, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, while Carey made an unbeaten 106 from 114 balls to help Australia to a total of 280-8.
England were never really in the hunt in reply, losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually being bowled out for 208 in the 44th over.
Chris Woakes top-scored for England with 53, but he received little support from the rest of the batting line-up.
The victory gives Australia an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, with the final match to be played at Headingley on Tuesday.
Player of the match Mitchell Starc said:
"It was a good performance from the whole team. We bowled well and fielded well, and Carey played a great innings."
England captain Eoin Morgan said:
"We were outplayed today. Australia bowled very well and we didn't bat well enough.
We need to learn from our mistakes and come back stronger in the next game."
